Our Story

Once upon a time, in a city outside of Los Angeles, two sisters had a passion for books, a dream, and a shared tattoo...

From this The Roaming Chapter was born.

Welcome to our bookstore! A place where all are welcome to immerse yourself into other worlds. A place where you can escape the stresses of reality and find a community built on a love of reading. 

The Roaming Chapter is Ventura County's first mobile bookstore. We offer a curated selection of fiction including romance and romantasy, science fiction, historical, and literary works. And we also have a specially curated children's section. Our goal is to bring the world of books to readers looking for community. We are a strong supporter of inclusivity for all and strive to incorporate books by LGBTQ+ and BIPOC authors. 

Our offerings go a step further than books. Because we also have a love of plants. You can find a host of houseplants for sale at our mobile bookstore keeping good friends with the books. 

You can meet us at local street fairs and pop-ups around Ventura County and Los Angeles. We are also available as a perfect addition for private events, such as birthdays, weddings, books clubs, and the like. Meet Kelly

Being surrounded by books is Kelly's happy place. In fact, she's surrounded by them now as she writes this. (She's also wondering how she's going to fit a growing pile of TBR books onto her already crammed bookshelf, but that's another problem for another day.) As all lives are, her life as been full of challenges, loves, heartache, and pride. Books are a constant companion, always providing solace whenever her heart hurts and the world feels like it's too much. When not reading, Kelly spends her free time with her two wonderful daughters and husband. She enjoys gardening and has a growing collection of plants that is starting to outrival her books. She is always looking to connect with others and build a community of bookish, plantish friends. 

Meet Jamie

As a child, Jamie found herself lost in stories. All stories. Told in the pages of books or images on the big screen, stories built worlds for her imagination to play and provided escape when reality got too hard. She especially finds herself deep in the pages of a fantasy novel or lost in time in one of historical fiction. Mom of two teenage boys, Jamie finds joy in keeping up with their busy schedules, crafting, and of course taking care of her growing indoor plant collection. She also enjoys the occasional slow weekend with her husband playing video games (something that has a story). The Roaming Chapter is the community Jamie has strived to find, to build and to share with other story lovers.
